Passed away peacefully at the Port Perry Hospital with family at her side, on September 14th at the age of 90. Survived by her husband of 71 years, David Swainson, and her daughters, Pamela Swainson (Wayne) and Susan Allward (Hugh) and predeceased by her son Michael Swainson. She is also survived by her brother Larry Thorvaldson. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Lionel Stanley (Jenny), Niall Stanley (Aimee), Maggie Tipping (Mike), Lindsay Allward (Mike), Karlyn Allward (Sean) and Hugh Allward, and her ten great-grandchildren.
Elaine Helga Swainson was the second child of five for Albert and Asta Thorvaldson, both of Icelandic descent. Icelandic was her first language, and she was proud of her heritage. She grew up on a small farm in Piney, Manitoba. Upon graduation from High School at 16, she moved to the city of Winnipeg to work in a bank. Soon after she met the love of her life, David, through matchmaking younger sisters that were friends. This November 6th would have been their 72nd anniversary.
While raising their three children, they lived in Point du Bois, Winnipeg, Boston, and finally Ajax while David worked to develop his career. Elaine pursued her own career working for the TD bank for 30 years, where she loved working with people. They retired to Madoc, Ontario and spent over 25 years on their country property there. For the last couple of years, both Elaine and David have resided in Port Perry Place, receiving great care and affection from the staff there.Elaine was a power shopper and always worked to look her best. She loved babies, naughty dogs, baking cinnamon rolls, and spoiling grandchildren.
According to her wishes, there will be no funeral for Elaine. Memorial donations may be given to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation.
