It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Bette Jack at Michael Garron Hospital on September 9, 2026, after a brief illness.
Bette was born in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland, on August 7, 1936. Although her journey began in Scotland, Bette immigrated to Toronto at the age of 24 with her husband, Peter, where they built a life filled with family, friendships, and countless memories.
Elizabeth Cunningham Jack was predeceased by Peter (1999) and her parents, Elizabeth (1945) and William (1973).
Bette will be forever loved and forever missed by her daughter, Lesley Halcro. The tight bond they shared and held so dear will never be broken.
Her grandchildren, Hannah Jack Halcro and McKay Jack Halcro held a very special place in her heart. Granny was always there for them, whether it was being beside them at milestone moments, or sneaking them extra special treats and gifts at every opportunity. Hannah and McKay will never forget those formative moments, countless sleepovers, and Granny’s unconditional love and generous nature.
Bette will also be greatly missed by her extended family and relatives, RBC colleagues, and the friends whose lives she touched throughout the years, both in Scotland and Canada.
To the very end, she lived an independent life in her own home, on her own terms, which we, and she, were very proud of. Her strength, selfless generosity, and spirited humour will never be forgotten.
Bette was to join Lesley, Hannah, McKay and her loving son-in-law, Lyle, in the rolling Northumberland Hills as part of her 90th birthday celebrations. The beautiful backdrop instead served the family as they gathered to reflect on a compassionate, supportive, and kind-hearted Mum and Granny.
It was a heartfelt period for all, but as they looked out on the vista, they saw her homeland of Scotland which she so loved. Bagpipe music, to the wind, saw her home in peace.
Cremation has taken place and a private interment in Scotland will take place at a later date.
