ELLIS, Donald Raymond Ellis

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Donald Ellis on May 30, 2025. At home and surrounded by his loving daughters Bobbi, Jackie, and Jenny—Don left his physical body and was reunited with his cherished wife, Marg, whom he missed dearly, as well as his parents, Len and Ruth Ellis, and his sister, Betty Wood.

Dad was a strong, loyal man, proud of his Ellis name and East Coast heritage. Life wasn’t always kind to him—he faced more than his fair share of hard times—but he carried them with dignity. He didn’t complain, he didn’t seek attention; he just kept going—strong, steady, and silent.

From the age of 12, the guitar was more than just an instrument to him. It was his voice when words failed, his therapy when the world grew heavy. He was known to play for hours a day. Even in his final moments, we were comforted to see him in a deep sleep, moving his hands as if he were still playing.

He liked older cars, simpler days, and the comfort of routine. He found joy in small things: a good meal, a clean truck, a classic country tune, camping, jamborees, playing cards, and a quiet evening watching old sitcoms or a classic movie. He was a jeans, plaid shirt, and cowboy hat kind of guy.

A kid at heart, Dad thrived on the sarcastic banter he shared with his grandkids—Wyatt, Damian, Cole, Danielle, Natalie, and Drew. He was immensely proud of them and honored to hold the title of “Papa,” aka “Happy Pappy.”

Cancer may have taken his body, but it never touched his spirit. Even near the end, he faced each day with quiet courage.

Now that he’s gone, the house feels quieter, the guitar sits still, and the garage door stays closed. But his presence is everywhere—in every memory, every meal shared, every song played, and every laugh that catches us off guard.

Dad, we love you deeply and will continue to carry your legacy forward. Give Mom a hug from us.

Rest easy—you did good.

“You been to a lotta places and you’ve seen a lotta things, Pa, but you never seen or been to heaven.”

– Adam Cartwright, Bonanza

As per Dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
