It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gladys (Ginny) Isabell Ellis on January 24th, 2026 in her 90th year. Ginny was born in Bowmanville, Ontario on June 9th, 1936. She grew up in a bustling, family-oriented home on Duke Street, which served as an anchor throughout her life. Although strong-willed and spirited, Ginny was an incredibly caring and dedicated person to those around her. It was her business to help others in whatever way she could. During her younger years Ginny worked at the Bowmanville Cleaners with her mother, Thelma Couvier. She then worked at the A&P grocery store of which she later moved to the Oshawa store where she met her long-time common-law partner, Robert John Allen. She was a mother of two, Donald Ellis who preceded her in death, and Cheryl Francis (Rod Plain) who will miss her dearly. She later worked in the shoe department of Sears Oshawa until her retirement.

In her golden years she enjoyed traveling to warm places, showing her artistic skill with flower arranging and folk art, and was an avid reader of thriller novels. She dedicated her time to love, friendships, and being a grandmother, which she took great pride in. Her grandchildren Jesse (Victoria Grawert) and Katie spent countless precious days with her, from being pushed on the swing sets at Memorial Park, to hockey games, to being a part of their school years. She was there for it all.

In her sunset years she remained resilient through several health challenges. As a resident of Glen Hill Strathaven she gave the PSW’s and RN’s a run for their money, always keeping  them entertained with her spiciness. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Glen Hill Strathaven, who took incredible care of Ginny during her final two years. Family and friends are invited to Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, 53 Division St. Bowmanville, on Thursday, February 5th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM for visitation or on Friday, February 6th at 11:00 AM for visitation with a service to follow at 12:00 PM. Burial will take place at Bowmanville Cemetery after the service.
