ENGLAND, George Frederick England

Humorous, charismatic, compassionate, resilient and unselfish are just a few of many words to describe George Frederick England, who passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026 at the age of 85.

George is reunited in Heaven with his loving wife of 60 years, Nancy (2024). Remembering him with an abundance of happiness and thankfulness are his daughter Nancy (John) Sulja, his son Bill (Beth) England, and his grandchildren Olivia (Danijel), Emma, Grant and William, all of whom he adored very much. He is also survived by his nephew Terry (Carol) England, predeceased by his niece Kathie Menogue (2013) and will be fondly missed by many extended family members, friends and neighbours. George was born on March 30, 1941 at home in Windsor’s west end to Annie (1977) and Robert (1983) England and he was the last surviving sibling of his family: brothers Robert (1986), Gerry (2021), Raymond (2005) and sister Dawn (2023).

After graduating from Herman Collegiate Institute where he excelled in hockey and football, George attended teacher’s college. He began a 35-year career in education as a teacher at Walker Public School (where he met Nancy) and Glenwood, vice-principal at Roseland, King Edward, Roseville and Dougall schools, and principal at Princess Elizabeth. A proud Canadian through and through, George was also quick to explain that the England family was from Northern Ireland. He was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Toronto Argonauts. Among his favourite personal accomplishments were his three Detroit marathons (1984, 1987, 1991), carrying the Olympic torch locally and subsequently representing Canada in the Opening Ceremonies of the 1988 Winter Games in Calgary.

Special thank you to Dr. James Colapinto, Dr. Annie Kanwar and the nursing staff of 5 North at Windsor Regional Hospital – Met Campus, and to the Dr. Y. Emara Centre palliative care unit for all their incredible support.
