FLEMING, Mary Elizabeth Fleming
November 21, 1937 - January 3, 2026Peacefully passed away January 3, 2026 at the age of 88. Mary is survived and will be missed by her children; George Fleming, Carolyn Rutetzki, Susanne Fleming, cousins, nieces and nephews and very best friend of 70+ years Joan Unan.
Predeceased by her son Lyndon Fleming, parents Alvina (Emma) and Wilbert Trombley, sister Alice and brothers Frank, Donald and Leonard.
Mary was born in Kirkland Lake and grew up in Northern Ontario where she met Joan Morrison and began a lifelong friendship. The two young ladies could not wait to discover the bright lights in the big city of Toronto and headed south. They enjoyed many happy times, working, attending parties and dances, various adventures, shenanigans and much laughter. Eventually the girls met their husbands, settled down raising their children. Maryβ s eldest son George is disabled; she was the most devoted mother to him throughout his life and was committed to providing George with the best quality of life she was able to.
When the children were older, Mary missed Northern Ontario and returned to her birthplace of Kirkland Lake. She worked for many years at the local A&P Store and was a favorite among customers and staff. After retirement Mary enjoyed trips around Northern and Southern Ontario as well as Alberta with George. Mary and George moved to Calgary Alberta for several years to be closer to her other children but once again Mary was drawn back to Northern Ontario where she and George enjoyed many happy years in Haileybury.
Mary spent her last years at Northview Nursing Home in Englehart where she was very well cared for by the excellent staff and enjoyed many weekends with George and Carolyn touring local Airbnbβs.
A celebration of Maryβs life will be held in Beaverton Ontario in the spring following interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
