Left to mourn are her four cherished children and their partners, Betty Andrews (predeceased Gordon) of Georgetown, Ian (Gregory McMahon) of Stratford, Dale (Lynn Bolton) of Lambton Shores and Lynn (Kris Morris) of Kemble.
A constant source of pride and interest, Beryl is survived by 7 grandchildren Peter Andrews (Michelle), Nancy Larocque (Mike), Kim McGonigle (Matt), Alisa Rake (Scott), Jennifer Anderson (Ben Smith), Klayton Morris and Greydon Morris; and, 8 great-grandchildren Devin, Tori, Dylan, Josie, Landon, and Summer, with the two most recent additions, Dayton and Mason, bringing joy to her face in her final days.
Beryl was the only child of Robert and Alice (Thompson) Gamble. Marrying Bob gave her ‘siblings’ and a large extended family, through which she is predeceased by Harvey & Velma Funston, Vernon & Ruth Anderson, Marjory & Don Perkins, Peter Godbold, Fred Anderson; and survived by Norma Godbold and Janet Anderson of Shelburne. She will be remembered by 15 nieces, nephews and their families.
Born in a simple log cabin in Proton Township, Beryl roomed in Dundalk to attend high school. Following school, she ventured to Toronto and worked at Eaton’s department store. A country girl at heart she returned to Dundalk, working in a dental office until marrying in 1948. Living on the 8th Line of Melancthon, she and Bob would farm and raise their children there for the next 39 years. Starting with a humble home, she was delighted when they built a new house with modern conveniences in 1962.
Wife, mother, homemaker and farmer, Beryl was the glue of the family operation. She managed an immaculate home, a big vegetable garden and always had a freezer full of butter tarts. She often managed the farm chores on her own, when Bob was working off the farm and the kids were at school. It would be called a side-hustle today, when she started raising roosters to sell every fall to family and friends. She chauffeured the kids to numerous lessons, sports activities and part-time jobs, always managing to juggle the multiple needs on her time. After she and Bob retired to Shelburne, Beryl became the ‘cash lady’ in the high school cafeteria. Independent and hard working to the very end, many personal care staff spent time chatting with Beryl rather than helping her with anything, as she always ‘had it done’ when they arrived.
Per Beryl’s wishes, there will be a private interment in Shelburne cemetery. Donations in Beryl’s memory may be made to the Headwaters Health Care Centre.
