George Howard Johnstone died peacefully on September 9, 2026, at Marotta Family Hospital in St. Catharines, surrounded by his family. He was in his 82nd year.
George was the beloved partner of Run Smith, cherished father of David (Vicky), stepfather of Liz (Kurt) and Evan, and devoted brother of Barry. He was predeceased by his parents, George Edward and Maxine.
George served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1962 to 1965 and took part in Canadian operations during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He later spent more than 30 years working in various roles at the Queenston Street site of St. Catharines General Hospital.
A longtime Ford Mustang enthusiast, George enjoyed watching Barrett-Jackson auto auctions and was an active member of the local Mustang Club.
In accordance with George’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements were entrusted to Tranquility Burial & Cremation Services (Niagara) Inc. A private family service will be held at a later date.
