GOWDY, Christine Gowdy

Passed into the arms of Jesus in Kingston General hospital on Thursday, the 28th of May, at the age of 62. Her 9 year battle against multiple myeloma cancer ended at 8:53 pm. She was the loving wife of Paul Gowdy and had recently celebrated her 35th Wedding anniversary on April 13th. She was also the precious mother of Emily, Laura, David, Benjamin & Faith Gowdy. The beloved daughter of Patricia and John Raymer & tender sister of Elizabeth, David & Bruce Raymer. She was also a beloved sister in Christ & friend to many of the Christians in the Durham region.

Christine met her husband in Dunbarton, Scotland, while they were both training to be Christian missionaries. They fell in love & decided to marry & settle in Canada. Christine is on record as saying that the happiest days of her life were the 15 years she spent as a stay at home mum. Christine was the glue that kept the family functioning. To say that she excelled in motherhood is an understatement!

She served in a company called Christian Horizons, where she looked after people with developmental delays, along with physical/mental illnesses as a caregiver / direct support professional. Christine excelled, showing the same love, care & devotion to her clients that she did to all she knew & loved.

It was her strong devotion to Christ & His Kingdom that was her strength & motivation. To say Canada will miss her is an understatement. She has finished her race and now enjoys the company of the saints in Glory.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 11:00am up until the time of service at 12:00 noon at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, 5295 Thickson Road North, Whitby, ON, with a reception to follow. Interment at St Paul’s Columbus Anglican Cemetery.
