After 68 years of good times, great music, dad jokes, and top-tier steering wheel drumming, Peter James Greer has officially moved on โ presumably to a place where Pink Floyd is always playing live, the Milky Way is visible every night, the candy bowl is always full and the lazy river is never-ending.
Peter passed away on July 31, 2025, at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto, after an extended stay at Toronto General and a brief stay at Princess Margaret โ his first and only hospital adventure, which he somehow managed to cram with more medical plot twists than a full season of Greyโs Anatomy. After decades of near-perfect health, he decided to go big before he went home.
He was a devoted husband to Donna, his best friend and wife of 43 years (his Sweet D), an endlessly proud dad to Leigh and Ryon (Joanna Wandel), a loving son to James Edgar and the late Barbara Ann, big brother to David (Marylynn) and Beverly, poppa to his granddogs Caspian, Bronco and the late Rascal, and a cherished uncle, brother-in-law and cousin to many โ none of whom ever beat him at cards, no matter what they say.
Born in Guelph and raised on meat and potatoes, Peter lived most of his life in Toronto, with pit stops in Acton, Oshawa, and Kelowna, BC. He was a computer systems analyst by trade (translation: he did mysterious things with computers), and a school bus driver by choice โ because nothing says โretirement funโ like 40 screaming children and a yellow vehicle with no seatbelts.
He never let go of his inner child โ the one who loved candy, chocolate, popsicles, ice cream, and cranking classic rock during road trips. He loved traveling, playing the drums on his steering wheel like it was Wembley Stadium, solving Sudoku puzzles with alarming speed, and straightening everything in sight with the precision of a man on a quiet mission.
Peter believed in faith, family and fun. He was the kind of man who showed up โ to every game, every concert, every birthday. He made people feel loved, safe, and important. He didnโt take life too seriously โ but he took loving people seriously. He was funny without trying, strong without force, and gentle in all the best ways.
A service for Peter will be held on Saturday, August 30th, 2025 at 1 pm at Bayview Glen Alliance Church in Thornhill, (300 Steeles Ave E, Thornhill, ON L3T 1A7) with a reception to follow. Laughter is mandatory and sadness must be accompanied by a good story or old photos. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Pancreatic Cancer Canada or The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation in his honour โ or just play some Pink Floyd a little too loud, smile for him and remember how lucky we all were to know him.
