Peacefully, at the Lakeridge Health Centre in Oshawa, on Monday, August 11, 2025, at age 89. Barbara (nee Hunter), beloved wife of the late Reverend John “Jack” Griffen; beloved Mother of Deanna (Ken), Bob (Patti) and Tim (Cathy); cherished Grandma of Kenton, Nicola (Devin), Jack (Katrina), Ben (Kim), Lara, Merril (Zoe); and loving Gigi to River and newborn Oaklyn. Barbara was a dear sister to Merle St. John and the late Wes; sister-in-law to the late Ted Griffen and his wife Jean and to Marilyn Hillier and her late husband Doug. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
From her youth in Prince Albert, to her many years as a minister’s wife serving several churches across Ontario, through to her later contributions to Port Perry United Church, Barbara always lived her faith and contributed greatly to her community. An avid quilter, knitter, baker, choir member and volunteer, Barbara brought wisdom and kindness to her many endeavors.
Relatives and Friends will be received at the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905-985-2171) on Tuesday, August 19th from 7 – 9 p.m., and at the Port Perry United Church on Wednesday, August 20th from 1 – 2 p.m. where a Service to celebrate Barbara will follow at 2 p.m. Reception to follow in the church auditorium. Private Interment Pine Grove Cemetery, Prince Albert. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Port Perry United Church or a charity of your choice.
