GUNNELL, Kenneth Norman Gunnell

Our family is saddened to share the news that Ken passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, in his 75th year. He was the beloved husband of Anne (nee Finn) for 53 years and proud father of Chris (Kim) and Kelly (Adam) Rockall. He was the cherished Grandpa of Nathan (Natelie), Autumn, Grayson, Hudson and Gracey. Ken is predeceased by his parents Ken and Kathleen Gunnell and survived by his siblings Bill (late Marie), Gary (late Joan), Elizabeth (Don) Swalwell and Rob (Sue). Ken is also lovingly remembered by his extended family, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Ken was a very hard worker all his life starting as co-owner of Classic Auto Body in Barrie and then his own autobody shop – Kirkfield Body and Fender. He next pursued a career as a steamfitter, gasfitter, etc. at Blackshaw & Clarke, Orillia, and then Kubota, Orillia, from where he retired. He was also involved in the Kirkfield community as a volunteer firefighter and maintenance worker for St. John’s Parish as well as St. John’s and St. Mary’s cemeteries. Ken enjoyed boating, fishing, snowmobiling, socializing, creating garden art, camping in his MCI at Craigleith Park, and riding his Harley. His favourite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren and even teasing them a bit. Ken was always a caring man who would gladly lend a hand to help anyone.

Visitation will take place at Mangan Funeral Home, Beaverton, on September 25th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on September 26th at 1:00 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 1045 Portage Road, Kirkfield. Internment at St. John’s Cemetery, Kirkfield. If desired, memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Cemetery, Kirkfield, and would be greatly appreciated by the family.
