The family announces with sorrow his passing on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Extendicare Timmins at the age of 75.
Dear brother of Léo (Lily) Hamel, Alice (Armand) Major, Raymond (Margo) Hamel, all of Timmins, Gaston (Addie) Hamel of Eagle River, ON, and Aline (Yvon) Talbot of Rouyn Noranda, QC. Also left to mourn is his sister-in-law, Réjeanne Lemire of Oshawa, ON, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents Roland and Rose (nee Emmell) Hamel, as well as by his brothers Marcel Hamel and Albert Hamel.
Gérard enjoyed walking and riding his bicycle. He especially appreciated taking part in the activities at Extendicare, such as bingo and arts and crafts, as well as the outings organized with his social worker. He was very proud of his garden at Extendicare.
The family would like to thank his social worker, Linda Suttle, the staff of the Cochrane Temiskaming Resource Centre, the team of the Gillies Lake Unit at Extendicare, Dr. DiTullio, as well as all the nursing and medical staff at the Timmins and District Hospital for their compassion and support toward Gérard.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 12 p.m. (noon) in the funeral home chapel, followed by interment of his cremated remains at Timmins Memorial Cemetery. A luncheon will take place in the Lessard Reception Centre. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at LESSARD Funeral and Cremation Centre.
Remembrance donations to the Resident Council – Extendicare Timmins or the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
