Loving wife of the late Everett Harness. Beloved mother of Robert (predeceased), Phillip (late Jane), Diana and John (late Marlene). Loving grandmother of Robert (Kathy), Cori-Ann (Jason), Jennifer, Robert (Randi), Kayla (Josh) and Kara (Eric) and many great grandchildren. Survived by brothers Sandy (Arlene) and Frasier (Jennifer) Ritchie and sister, June Brown. Predeceased by twin sister, Ruth Ritchie.
Jean was born in Port Hope in 1936 and settled in Bowmanville with Everett where they raised their family. She worked at General Accident in Toronto, where she rose to the role of supervisor and spent many fulfilling years.
A woman of style, Jean had a passion for the arts. She loved ballet, theatre, and all the glitz and glamour of big-city life. Jean loved to travel. She cherished trips to the west coast with her twin sister Ruth, getaways to Atlantic City, and relaxing days in Wasaga Beach. She especially enjoyed outings to Casino Rama with family, where she delighted in the buffet, a show, and trying her luck at the slots. Every summer, she looked forward to attending the Highland Games with Everett.
Jean’s zest for life was truly unmatched—she never let anything slow her down. She approached every chapter with energy and enthusiasm. In her younger years, she performed as a chorus line dancer in Cornz-a-Poppin, a beloved community variety show held at the Bowmanville Town Hall. Later in life, she continued to share her passion for the stage with a role in a play at the Bowmanville Seniors Centre. Whether under the spotlight or in everyday life, Jean was always ready to shine.
Her children cherish the fond memories of sharing the simple moments with her—whether it was dinner at Honest Ed’s, The Keg, or Bowmanville Restaurant, afternoons in the backyard and garden, or shopping trips to the Oshawa Centre.
Jean was a devoted grandmother who loved to spoil her grandchildren. Whether it was with giant Toblerone bars, elegant dolls, art classes, tea parties, or organizing a family outing to see The Nutcracker, she created magical memories that will be cherished forever.
Jean was the heart of family gatherings, hosting Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners right up until her final Christmas in her home in 2023.
Jean will be deeply missed. Her presence, values, and traditions leave a lasting legacy. We will carry her bright spirit in our hearts always. One step at time, dear Jesus. ❤️
