Margaret Ethel Hauser

March 23, 1954 – October 9, 2025

Smiling woman in glasses, black dress, dining setting.

Beloved wife, mother, world traveller, and tireless community volunteer, passed away peacefully and pain-free at age 71 in the early morning of October 9, 2025, at Victoria General Hospital. Surrounded by love, her entire family had the gift of saying goodbye.

Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Margo drove west as a young adult in search of her calling. She stopped when she reached Victoria, BC, where she built her life. Initially intent on joining the Victoria Police, she took a temporary job at Toronto-Dominion Bank while awaiting the hiring process. When the police position was offered, she chose banking instead, rising through the ranks until her retirement in January 2016.

In Victoria, Margo met her husband and lifelong partner, Walter. Together they raised two sons, Richard and Tom, in the close-knit VicWest neighbourhood. Margo poured her heart into children and community. She taught Sunday School, served on the VicWest Elementary Parent Advisory Council, kept score for Esquimalt Little League, led Cubs, trained adult leaders, co-chaired fundraising for Greater Victoria Region of Scouts Canada, and supported the Canadian Cadets Organization, all while working full-time, managing a Watkins home-products business, and earning her Business Administration degree through evening classes at the University of Victoria.

Margo lived to explore. Early family adventures meant camping trips to Calgary to visit relatives. As the boys grew, Disney vacations (both coasts) and countless Las Vegas getaways with Walter followed. In 2001, Margo and Walter discovered a passion for cruising. With more than 60 voyages, Margo circled the globe and continued to sail until July 2025. She was determined to never look back and say, “I wish I had.” Whether Margo was cruising or resting at home, she spent countless hours cross-stitching. She enjoyed gifting intricate pieces to loved ones and creating travel commemoratives for her memory wall.

Margo is survived by her husband Walter; sons Richard (Xanadu) and Thomas (Naomi); grandchildren Guinevere, Anika, Trinity, Paithian, and Elowynn; and great-grandchildren Christian and Gabriel.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 24, 2025, at 1:00p.m. at Trafalgar Pro Patria Legion Branch #292, 411 Gorge Road East, Victoria, BC. Doors open at 1:00 p.m.; please be seated by 1:30 p.m.

Margo always lived life to the fullest, gave 100% to everything she did and left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Don’t be sad she’s gone; be happy you knew her.
