HEARD, Evelyn Heard

With saddened hearts but with much gratitude we celebrate the life of Evelyn Ann Heard (nee Finney) a woman of quiet strength, boundless love and enduring grace. Evelyn passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025 at Fosterbrook Long Term Care, Newcastle in her 92nd year following a life well lived. Evelyn leaves behind a legacy of volunteerism and steadfast commitment to her communities, serving many years with the Zion United Church, Meals on Wheels and more recently with the Kedron United Church.

Evelyn was predeceased by the love of her life, husband Lorne of 68 years. Evelyn leaves behind her two loving daughters Gale Coburn (Dennis) of Kirkfield and Sandra Best (Grant) of Newtonville.

She will be sadly missed by her loving grandchildren Thomas Best (Alexandra) of Orono, Christopher Best (Stephanie) of Cobourg, Kaitlynne Lowe (Andrew) of Halifax NS, predeceased by her grandson Peter Best. Sorely missed by her great grandchildren, Marlee, Cooper, Nash, and Paeton.

Evelyn will be dearly missed by her surviving siblings Phillip Finney (Roberta), Teresa Farrow (predeceased Jim), Glen Finney (Jackie). Predeceased by her siblings Everett Finney ( Donna deceased), Harvey Finney (Betty deceased) Gordon Finney (Jennifer).

A very special thank you to the staff of Fosterbrook Long Term Care for the wonderful care given to Evelyn over the last year, a special thank you to nurses;, Stephanie, Pam and Pema and the PSW’s for the wonderful Palliative Care provided for her final journey. Also to the many Saint Elizabeth staff who cared for Evelyn for many years while she remained at home in her community.

On December 1st, there will be a graveside service held at 11:00 am at Zion Cemetery, 5165 Enfield Road Hampton, Ontario with a Celebration of Life and luncheon to follow at 12:00 at Eldad United Church (Solina) 1848 Concession Rd. 6, Hampton, Ontario.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Alzheimer’s Society of Durham , Bowmanville Hospital Building Fund or charity of your choice.
