Heather Margaret Wilson (Wells)
Sunrise August 1, 1949. Sunset September 4, 2026
Heather has finished her race. While she ran many uphill battles in her lifetime, she can rest in heavenly peace now. Cheering her across the finish line are her beloved family and friends. Brother Ian and Edorne Wells. Daughter Skye and husband Chris Walks. Son Joey and partner Amber. As well as many friends, family and colleagues who were like family to her. Loved by many, Heather is remembered for her beautiful generous spirit, her determination to overcome anything that life threw at her, and her delicious gourmet meals.
Daughter to the late Don and Moira Wells, Heather grew up in North Vancouver on Sutherland Street and Windsor Road. She attended Ridgeway elementary, North Van High School, and graduated from Carson Graham the first year it opened. She had fond memories of riding in classic cars, going to Ripps diner on Lonsdale for french fries, and to a movie all for a few cents. The family dogs Jasper and Duna provided much comfort for her in her childhood and many other dogs gave her joy over the years. Heather had many hairdo’s in her lifetime including a fabulous bouffant hairdo in her teenage years, a big afro perm in her disco era, and a pixie cut that stayed with her for many years. Ever so stylish, Heather would be mortified at some of the photos, and say “What was I thinking!” But we think she looks fabulous!
Heather ran for many decades around North Vancouver where she lived most of her life. She ran 10 Marathons, 3 Ultramarathons, and completed Ironman four months after a heart attack! She forged many friendships in the running community and while not among the elite to finish, she is number one in our books.
Having many jobs over the years including at the Boys and Girls Club and at Law Firm Russell and Dumoulin, she retired from a 30 year career as an accounting clerk for Customs Broker JB Ellis in 2019. Here, she was known to show up for potluck lunches with several dishes that her colleagues still talk about today, even though she was told to bring just one! She cherished her dear friends there who cared for her so well in work and in life.
As a single mother to Skye and Joey, she took them on many adventures through their childhood. “Lets go on a mystery tour” Mumsie would say and they would end up on a North Shore trail, mountain or river, as well as many beautiful parts of Vancouver like Stanley Park’s Aquarium or the Granville Island Market and waterpark. A highlight was visiting Expo 86 with a season pass which allowed for many wonderful days exploring the sights together. Many summers were spent at the beaches of Ambleside, Second Beach, Spanish Banks and White Rock. With many happy memories, Heather is deeply missed by her children.
Heather retired in White rock in 2021 with daughter Skye and son in law Chris in her own suite we called The Mother In Law Lounge. She enjoyed many happy hours here (which was her favorite time of the day) and cooking favorite family recipes for Sunday dinners for her loved ones, or just a “peasant meal” on weeknights. Her love of cooking couldn’t stop her from feeding her favorite people. This was her gift to all those she loved.
We remember her love and her life well lived, and though she is gone from this world, she will forever be remembered by those who loved her most. She would want us to raise a glass, and fill a plate, and eat and drink and be merry. And while her race is finished, we will continue to be in awe of the woman she was.
Celebration of Life will take place at the Boal Chapel, First Memorial in North Vancouver on Saturday October 10th, 2026, at 2pm.
