HEDGE, Helen Hedge

Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at the age of 99. Born Helen Puckrin on April 9, 1926, in Pickering Township on the “Bell Farm” (Lot 6, Concession 3), she attended Audley Public School and later Whitby High School. She began her career as a stenographer at Defence Industries Limited Hospital and spent most of her working life in Ajax. Helen worked with the University of Toronto Athletic Department, Central Mortgage & Housing Corporation, and later the Improvement District of Ajax (Town of Ajax), where she dedicated 30 years of service before retiring in 1986.

Helen married Mac Hedge in March 1948, and they made their home on the 4th Concession of Pickering Township (now Taunton Road), where she lived most of her life. She treasured the peaceful rural life and often reflected that she had lived in a good era. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting afghans for children, rug hooking, tending her flower gardens, and caring for her many beloved cats.

Helen is survived by her nephews Rick Puckrin, Jerry Puckrin and Ronny Puckrin, as well as her great nephews Justin, Jason, Colin (Sarah), Taylor (Adam) and her great-great niece. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Jean. She is predeceased by her brother Earl (Alvah), Richard “Dick” (Barbara), and nephew Tom Puckrin.

Service will be held at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 1763 Reach Street, Port Perry (905-985-7331) on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 11a.m. with visitation for 1 hour prior. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held. Burial will take place at Salem United Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
