HELDER, William Liam Peter Helder

November 21, 1987 - November 6, 2025
HELDER, William Liam Peter Helder

God, in his timing, called his child William Peter Helder home. Born on November 21, 1987 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton, Liam was a true Hamilton boy—never living more than 5 kilometres from the hospital in which he was born, and always cheering for the Ticats. Baptized and raised in the Canadian Reformed Church, Liam was held tight by God’s covenant faithfulness, and sought to raise his children in the knowledge of God’s grace. Outgoing and gregarious, if Liam decided he wanted to be your friend, you didn’t have much of a say in the matter. No matter where he went, he brought people together—at church, in the neighbourhood, or elsewhere—and was generous with his time and attention.

Liam was always larger than life. He loved his family, friends, and church family deeply, and was a dedicated father and husband—always seeking to help his wife and kids be the best versions of themselves. He took pride in his roles as a father, husband, friend, and colleague, and sought to do his best in all things, no matter the circumstances. Though his life was often marked by adversity, Liam had a strong determination and a strong support system around him, and knew he was a child of the Lord.

Liam leaves behind his beloved wife Lisa of 9 years and their four children: Hendrik, Annalise, Peter, and Edward as well as his large and loving family: parents George and Jacoba “Coosje” Helder, and siblings, nieces and nephews; Emily (Andrew) Dykstra – Lydia, Charlotte, Vivian, Jasper; Kathryn Harsevoort – Kylie, Simon, Lucas, Molly, Eden; Curtis Helder; Sheila (Rodrigo) Cabrera – Matteo, Sebastián, Nikolai, Angelica, Tobias; Graham (Kirstin) Helder – Benjamin, Jonathan, Bronwyn, Elowen; including his in-laws Harry and Wendy Pranger; Julie Pranger; Nicole (Ian) VanderDeen – Esther, Reuben, Josiah, as well as countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, November 11 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at CORNERSTONE CANADIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 353 Stonechurch Road East, Hamilton where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 10:30 a.m., Pastor Winston Bosch officiating. Interment to follow at Mt. Hamilton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Timothy Christian School or Streetlight Christian Church would be appreciated. Psalm 139:1-16

Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar.

You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.

Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.

You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it.

Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?

If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!

If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,

even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.

If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,”

even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

My frame was not hidden from you when I was being made in secret,

intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them,

the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
