It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lois Irene Hindmarsh on March 10, 2026, at the age of 84.
Lois was born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan, to Albert and Pearl Dies, the youngest of five children. She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Kenneth Wayne Hindmarsh; her children, Carla Ma (Adrian Ma) and Ryan Hindmarsh (Diane Niec); and her siblings Lorraine (Lloyd) and Ron (Ann). She was predeceased by her siblings Keith (Eileen) and Glen (Grayce). Lois will also be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Lois dedicated her life to teaching and caring for others. She was a primary school teacher, teaching kindergarten through grade three, with a special love for grade one students. She took great pride in her work and in making every child feel valued and supported.
Her faith was central to her life. Lois loved God deeply and was actively involved in her church, where she helped run Sunday school programs and served in the ESL Café ministry at St. Paul’s Bloor Street Church, helping new immigrants settle into life in Canada. Music was also a lifelong passion; she was an accomplished pianist, achieving her Grade 8 Conservatory, and she loved sharing music with others.
In later years, Lois also volunteered at Women’s College Hospital in Toronto, where she ran the volunteer desk with tireless care. She carefully organized schedules and ensured every patient was treated with dignity and compassion. Her dedication left a lasting impression on the hospital community.
Lois was known for her grace, curiosity, and joyful spirit. She took great pride in her appearance, always beautifully put together, and had a remarkable ability to make others feel comfortable, respected, and welcomed. Her warmth, humour, and kindness touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
A celebration of Lois’s life will be held at St. Paul’s Bloor Street Church on April 18 at 11:00 a.m. For those unable to attend in person, there will be a livestream available
