Mary Eileen Ivonne Helferty

Peacefully at Miramichi Lodge, with family by her side, on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in her 97th year. Eileen Helferty (nee Mohns) was a proud Life Member and Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 72, Pembroke, and the beloved wife of the late Lawrence “Chummy” Helferty. Loving mother of Dale (Cameron McLauchlan), Ann (Mike) Stoodley, and Lynn (Shawn) Urlocker. Cherished grandmother of Kelly (Dan), Christopher, Cory, Alison (Peter), Amy (Bryan), Adam (Pam), Shayne (Jordan), Brendan (Bria), Lee (Erica), Shannon (Ethan), and Lauren. Proud GG of Kyla, Soren, Sailor Jane, Kitty, Beckham, Aidan, Evan, Colin, Justin, Wyatt, Henry, and Charlotte. Also survived by her brothers Brian (Judy) Mohns and Giles (Sue) Mohns; sisters-in-law Jeannine Mohns and Barbara (late Larry) Grace; brother-in-law Bruce Ryan; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents Henry and Eva Mohns (nee Turcotte), stepmother Ethel Paquette, son-in-law Jim Brown, sisters Carmen (Charlie) Belland, Iveagh (Harold) Sheedy, Margaret Reid, Aurelia (Victor) Bonora, and Sharon Ryan; and brothers Willard, Lloyd (Nettie) and Dennis Mohns.

Known for her sharp wit and lively spirit, Eileen enjoyed good company, a competitive game and had a knack for keeping everyone on their toes.

Mary Eileen Ivonne Helferty will be fondly remembered by her niece and favourite Scrabble rival, Brenda Reid.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Neville Funeral Home, 491 Isabella Street, Pembroke, on Monday, April 27, 2026 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 2:00 p.m.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the kind and compassionate staff at Miramichi Lodge for the wonderful care and support Mom received during her time there and to all of Eileen’s many friends on 2B.
