HELMER, Bob Helmer

Robert ‘Bob’ William Helmer, a third-generation resident of Duart, passed away peacefully with family by his side at Riverview Gardens on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at the age of 78. Bob was born in Chatham and was the son of the late Tom and Norma (née Hall) Helmer.
He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Maxine Helmer (née Humphrey). Bob was a loving father to Steve Helmer (Carrie) and Kim Galbraith (Kevin), and a proud Grandpa to Austin Galbraith (Chelsea), Sarah Adams, Stacie Galbraith, and Katie Helmer. He was also a Great-Grandpa to Reid Galbraith.
Bob was a dear brother to Keith, Murray, Dennis, Cheryl (Alex) Ronyson, and Kevin (Barb). He was predeceased by his brother Terry and infant sister Carolyne. Bob will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
Bob dedicated over 30 years to his work at KSR. He also enjoyed a lifelong hobby of collecting and restoring antique gas engines and tractors. He was well-known in the collector’s community, attending shows across Canada and the USA. In Duart and the surrounding area, he earned the nickname “Mr. Fix-it” for always being found in his shop working on a new project.
The family will receive friends at McKinlay Funeral Home, 76 Main Street East, Ridgetown on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm and on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 12:00 pm until the Funeral Service at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Duart Cemetery.
