Hildred Jean (Manning) Eby

The family of Hildred Eby wish to announce her peaceful passing in her ninety-eighth year, at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa. She will be greatly missed for her humour, emotional support and nurturing companionship.

Hildred was born into a family of seven children during the depression. She loved sharing memories of how her loving family, parents and siblings, made it through those years of hand-me-downs and ketchup sandwiches, going to high school with Gordie Howe, and learning to squeeze every ounce of joy from a life well-lived.

Predeceased by her husband, Howard Eby, Veteran of World War II and a long-time proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces, and her parents William Manning and Annie Horton Manning.

Predeceased by brothers Ken (Lettie), David (Helen)and Dennis Manning, all veterans of the war, and by sisters Gladys (Don Schoenfeld) and Irene. Survived by sister Lillian (Bud Eltherington) of Cambridge, and many nieces and nephews.

Hildred leaves two sons, William Eby (Laura), and Robert Eby (Gail), along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a longtime member of the Legion in Angus, Ontario, and lunch-time supervisor at Angus Elementary School.  She had many fond memories of Bingo and Euchre times spent with friends and Christmas parties and summer reunion picnics with her family. She loved the activities at both White Cliffe Terrace, Courtice, and Cedarcroft Place, Oshawa. Thank you to all the staff at both homes for their kindness and understanding.

A celebration of life service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
