HOLTON , Allen (Al) Murray Holton
June 5, 1948 - August 12, 2025
It is with great love and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Allen (Al) Murray Holton of Collingwood, Ontario, on August 12, 2025.
Allen will be dearly missed by his beloved and loving wife of 54 years, Mary (née Hambrock); his daughter Rebecca (Nunzio) and son Michael (Heather); his grandchildren Francesca, Liliana, Nicholas, and Liv; and his in-laws and extended family.
Allen was born on June 5, 1948, to Edwin and Ethel Holton (née Beatty) and grew up in Niagara Falls, Ontario, alongside his older brothers, Joseph and Roger.
In 1966, he met Mary, who would become the love of his life. They were married in 1971 following Allen’s graduation from McMaster University. His career as a phys ed teacher took them all around Ontario until 1978, when they settled in Collingwood.
After earning his master’s degree in education from the State University of New York, Allen shifted his focus from phys ed to guidance. He was a guidance counselor at Collingwood Collegiate and eventually became Head of Guidance at Stayner Collegiate, a position he would hold for over 20 years. He was a talented educator who was respected by staff and students alike.
Al loved sports. He was involved in countless athletic activities as a player, a coach, and an official. Although health challenges in his later years prevented him from participating actively in sports, he remained an enthusiastic fan of his favourite teams, including the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Buffalo Bills.
Al had a warm and sociable presence, a clever wit, and the ability to put others at ease. He made a positive impact on so many lives and he will be deeply missed.
In accordance with Allen’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held in Niagara Falls at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Collingwood G&M Hospital Foundation would be much appreciated.
