HORNE, Jack Robert Horne February 15, 1938 - May 30, 2025
HORNE, Jack Robert Horne

Born in the Ottawa Valley to Bob and Vi Horne, Jack moved with his parents and 5 siblings to Ajax, ON in 1943. He attended Ajax Public School and Pickering District High School. Jack’s first job out of school was with Barclay Transport. In June 1959, he began a lengthy career with General Motors, beginning in the Public Relations Department. He handled tours through the plant and was later involved with the Previews of Progress Program, taking him across Canada from coast to coast. In 1972, Jack had the opportunity to take his young family to Melbourne, Australia where he set up the Sales Distribution System for General Motors Holden; an incredible experience providing life long memories. He continued with General Motors until his retirement in 1996.

Jack was a quiet, hard working guy who enjoyed his backyard gardens, cottage life, snowmobiling, making wine and maple syrup, his fishing and hunting buddies, and travel. He and his trusty navigator (both in life and on the road) his wife Irene, embarked on many trips together; going all across Canada, seeing all 50 States in 50 years, overseas holidays to Mexico, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Bermuda, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden, as well as cruises to Hawaii and Alaska.

Jack’s legacy includes his marriage of 64 years to Irene Lang and their four children: John (Kate), Ed, Nancy Kalotai, and Peggy Lunn. He was the loved Grandad of Ben (Cassidy) Kalotai, Claire Lunn, Valerie Kalotai, Eric Lunn, and Izabelle Horne. Along with his immediate family, Jack also leaves behind his sister Sandra Ibbitson and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers Gord, Doug, Tom and sister Pat.

Jack passed peacefully, surrounded by family, after a brief stay at Age Care Samac.  Thanks to the Samac Trail staff.

He will be remembered with love and respect as a capable, patient man of many talents and a unique sense of humour.

Rest well Dad, your ‘TO DO’ list is complete.

Condolences may be expressed through Mount Lawn Funeral Home.
