It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Richard (Rick) Hosking. He was surrounded by family at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the age of 84.
Much loved husband of Barbara Hosking for 57 wonderful years. Loving father of Danita Hosking (Alejandro), Danielle Reichmann (Roland), and Denise Hosking. Cherished grandfather of Courtney, Kelly, Emily, Ryan, Rico, Teo, and Vanesa. Great-grandfather of Ella and Bentley.
Dear brother of Ron Hosking (Joan). Predeceased by his parents, Audrey and Edward Hosking, and by his sister Gloria and her husband Gary.
Born on February 26, 1941, Rick grew up in East York. A graduate of both Toronto Teachers College and the University of Toronto, he worked for several school boards before meeting his wife Barbara while teaching in Quadeville. After marrying, they moved to Toronto, where Rick continued his teaching career with the East York Board of Education and together raised three daughters.
Rick retired from Westwood Junior High School, where he served as Head of the Science Department. Known for his quick wit, sense of humour, and his trademark line, “Should’ve had boys,” Rick’s most valued treasure was his family. He also enjoyed golf, cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs, Blue Jays, and Raptors, and spending summers at Heber Down and Cedar Valley Resort with cherished friends.
Visitation will be held at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, 5295 Thickson Rd. N., Whitby, ON, on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a reception.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the incredible staff on the 7th floor at St. Michael’s Hospital, whose kindness and humour brought great comfort during Rick’s final days.
