If these words are reaching you, you likely knew Patty Huggett (nee Varsava). If you knew her, she prayed for you. She cared about you, wanted the best for you, including for you to know Jesus Christ. On March 30, 2026, Patty finished her race, holding the hand of her husband, surrounded by family, she entered eternity. She remained anchored in her faith, carried a deep devotion to her calling, and always nurtured a passionate dream to be with her loved ones in the fields and forests of the 100 acres she prayed in many decades earlier. She is dearly held in the hearts of her husband of 49 years, Al Huggett, her children: Jessica Hext, Aaron and Holly Huggett, Daniel (1982-2023) and Sandra Huggett, Sarah and Jacob Binnendyk. She is adored by her grandchildren: Mackinlay Hext, Gracynn Hext, Jesse Huggett, Cohen Huggett, Luciana Huggett, Anderson Binnendyk, Henrik Binnendyk, Sidney Huggett. Predeceased by her father John Varsava, lovingly remembered by her mother Georgene Varsava, and her siblings Jerry (Anu) Varsava, Randy (Patty) Varsava, Kathy Simpson, Mick (Janet) Varsava, their children, and by her church family who are too many to name, but each cherished. Patty’s life was a tapestry of service. Together with Al she founded and pastored The Rock Family Church and Oil Heritage Family Church, and they served in ministry side by side for over forty years. Patty also served in church missions to the Philippines, Israel, New York, and domestically. Before full-time ministry, she used her creativity and drive to project manage restoration of historical buildings and research at the Oil Museum of Canada, interior design renovations and community engagement for Shell Canada, and to coordinate creation of sections of the Trans Canada Trail. She was a historical fiction writer, inspired by her grandfather Andy Thompson, but never published, because it wasn’t quite perfect yet. She loved the mountains, the beach, nature, and people; and always found the best in each. Patty was one-of-kind. God himself created her to be wonderful and unique, with purpose. To honour Patty’s legacy, find a way each day to love someone unconditionally and to encourage them in their journey of faith. Bring light to the darkness and love your neighbour as yourself. Do not let the grief of the moment take your joy but greet this and every day with joy and gladness as a gift from God (Psalm 118:24). If you knew Patty, you may be feeling a separation as she leaves this world and enters the pearly gates to be with her Heavenly Father. You may also feel a separation from God in your own life. As a devoted Pastor, Patty spent her life pointing others toward the love and grace of Jesus Christ. In remembering her, may you be encouraged to continue your own journey of faith, drawing closer to Him and finding the hope and peace she so faithfully shared.
