HUGHES, David Maunsel Hunt Hughes
October 31, 1947 - June 10, 2026
Passed away peacefully after a difficult, thankfully brief illness.
David Maunsel Hunt Hughes spent his preschool years in Lakefield prior to moving to Toronto where he lived until relocating to Oshawa about 11 years ago.
David attended John Ross Robertson and Maurice Cody Public Schools followed by Northern Vocational Secondary School. He found school a challenge and was much happier when he left school and began his working life at Miltβs Boys and Menβs Wear, followed by many years at Browns for Short Men on Queen St., and finally Aquarius Menβs Wear in North York.
Davidβs passion was hockey. He played goal for St. Margaretβs Anglican Church as a youth, and then in a menβs recreational league. When he was no longer able to play, he took pleasure in founding and managing the Hughesday Knights River Rats.
David was predeceased by his mother, Lorna Hunt Hughes (nΓ©e Roberts); his father, Maunsel Hunt; his stepfather, F. Norman Hughes; and his sisters, Linda Neufeld (Dave) and Margaret LaCasse (Yoland). He is survived by his siblings, Judy Hughes, Mary Spafford (Jack, deceased), Libby Stratton (Brooke), and Don Hughes (Margaret). He is also survived by fourteen nieces and nephews: John, Scott, Eric, Jacqueline, Christine, Nadine, Alan, Kevin, Beth, Jen, Katie, Stephanie, Mark and Carolyn.
Details for an upcoming Celebration of Life will be announced once confirmed.
