HURREN, William Allan Hurren

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Hurren, who passed away peacefully at Ross Memorial Hospital on November 7, 2025, at the age of 72, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Lindsay, Ontario, Bill was the beloved son of the late Ralph and Phoebe Hurren, and brother of Lillian Ruth Prysizney. A longtime resident of Kirkfield, Ontario, Bill was the devoted husband of the late Marian Hurren, and stepfather to Mark Wilson (Dina Wilson) and Debra Wilson (Lisa Gignac).

Bill took immense pride in his family, especially his grandchildren Elisha Wilson (Cooper Catt), Shelby Empey, and Rachel Empey (Brody Massecar), and his adored great-granddaughter Aubree, who brought him endless joy and laughter. Bill never missed an opportunity to share stories about them. Anyone who spent time with him quickly learned how proud he was of their accomplishments, their kindness, and the people they had become. His eyes would light up whenever he spoke of them, and his love for his family was his greatest joy and proudest achievement in life.

Alongside his family, Bill shared a special bond with his cat, Dusty. Dusty was his faithful companion through good days and hard ones, and brought him comfort, laughter, and love every single day. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Gull River Veterinary Services for lovingly adopting Dusty and providing him with exceptional care.

He spent his life on the open road, driving trucks across Ontario and beyond. Though his travels took him many miles from home, his heart always remained close to his roots in Kirkfield and the surrounding community. Known for his quick wit, his love for the Portage House Restaurant, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys in everyday life, Bill touched the lives of everyone he met and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the incredible care, kindness, and support Bill received from both his community and the medical staff who helped him throughout his illness. Special thanks go to his social workers, Rosemary and Brian from Community Care, and the dedicated staff at the Kirkfield and Coboconk libraries for their compassion and encouragement, as well as to the wonderful team at Ross Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care and comfort in his final days.

The family would like to share a special thank you to Bill’s wonderful friends, Sally, Dianne, Tim, Ron, Kim, Dave and so many others, for the love, laughter, and support you gave him over the years. Your friendship meant so much to Bill and brought him comfort, happiness, and a sense of belonging that he truly treasured. He was always grateful for each of you, and our family takes great comfort in knowing he was surrounded by such caring and loyal friends who brightened his days and stood by him through it all.

Visitation will be held at Mangan Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 12th from 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am with interment to follow at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Cemetery, Bolsover. If desired memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
