Was born October 2, 1935, in Dublin, Ireland, passed away peacefully in Burlington, Ontario on February 4, 2024.
She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Wilfred; sisters, Lilian and Patricia; and brother, Seamus.
Ida is survived by her loving sister, Maura; brothers, Brian and Paddy; and sister-in-law, Monica. Ida grew up in Dublin and had 6 brothers and sisters. She emigrated from Dublin with Wilfred to Toronto in 1957.
Beloved mother of Deidre (Laurie), Brian (Darlene) and Oonagh (David).
Cherished Nana to Carolyn, Eric, Brendan, Kaitlin, Stephen and Sean. Step Grandmother to Courtney and Matt. Great-Nana to Charlotte, Lucas and Coen.
She is also fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, family and friends in Canada, United States and Ireland.
Ida was known throughout her family, friends, acquaintances and neighbours as a kind, loving woman who was a magnificent hostess, described by her sister as “goodness” itself. She kept a beautiful garden and was welcoming to anybody.
She was a dedicated community person including membership at Tam Heather and Curran Hall tennis clubs.
As a devout Catholic Ida was deeply involved in many aspects of the St Thomas More Church community for the last 40 years. This included leading Marriage Preparation courses, Reader and Eucharistic Minister.
She enjoyed delivering the Eucharist and visiting with residents of Seven Oaks Long Term Care Home in Scarborough. After raising 3 children she began a career in the insurance industry where she retired 25 years later giving her more time to follow her passion for playing tennis, creating an even more beautiful garden, and starting new interests such as golf and travelling.
While Ida spent the last 2 years in Burlington at Billings Court Manor, the majority of her life in Canada was spent in Scarborough where she had many long-lasting friendships and was known in the neighbourhood for her endless walks and warm, friendly personality.
Cremation has already taken place.  A Funeral Mass will be held at St Raphael’s Roman Catholic Parish, 4072 New St., in Burlington Ontario, Saturday, April 13th, starting at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Thank you to the staff at Billings Court Manor for the care provided during the final period of her life.
