Passed away peacefully at his home in Toronto on August 17, 2026. He was 90.
Born in rural Croatia shortly before the Second World War, Ivan came to Canada as a refugee in 1959.
Upon arriving in Toronto, Ivan spent his days working in factories and his nights out on the town.
Ivan Raspor met Mary (née Brunette) on the dance floor, and they married in the 1970s. The arrival of their children, Andrew and Krista, followed soon after.
After surviving a brief battle with cancer, Ivan transitioned from factory work to freelance general contracting. Many of his neighbours are proud owners of an indestructible Ivan-made kitchen, bathroom and/or back deck.
Ivan had many hobbies—golfing, skiing and tinkering in his workshop—but he was best known for his singing voice. Whether it was a Croatian folk song, a Top 40 hit or Happy Birthday, Ivan’s booming baritone always joined in.
More than anything, Ivan loved spending time with his family. In addition to his wife and children, he held his sister, Klara, and his grandchildren, River and Finley, especially close to his heart.
Ivan is survived by his wife, Mary; his sister, Klara (Roly); his son, Andrew (Jessie); his daughter, Krista (Nuri); his grandchildren, River and Finley; and his many nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Anton and Sava; his sister, Anita; and his niece, Cathy.
A Mass will be held at Holy Name Catholic Church (71 Gough Ave., Toronto) on Wednesday, August 26, at 10 a.m.
A private interment for family will follow at Mount Hope Catholic Cemetery.
All are welcome to join the reception at the family home beginning at 12:30 p.m.
