The family of Jerry Fis is saddened to share his passing on August 5, 2026. He lived a full life with patience, curiosity, and compassion for all he knew and loved. He displayed wisdom and an innate ability to meet every challenge directly and courageously.
He dedicated much of his working life to education, serving as a Teacher, VP and Principal with Durham District School Board. His leadership earned the respect of students, parents and colleagues and made a lasting difference in the lives of those around him.
Jerry had a lifelong love of exotic cars, boats (big and small) and family. As a meticulous researcher of travel, autos and household projects, he was always very successful.
Nothing made him happier than listening to his favourite music often breaking into spontaneous song.
His love of travel led him to multiple continents by “trains, planes and automobiles” plus boats!
As the son of a hard-working immigrant family, he was proud of his Ukrainian heritage. Chef Jerry created many special meals, especially breakfasts and insisted that all meat be well done!
He was a lover of single malt scotch and a man who appreciated the simple pleasures of good conversation, friends, and family. He lived with his health issues with grace and dignity. He was a truly unique and special human being. Everyone misses him already! The life he built and the people he loved will carry his legacy forward. Heartfelt thanks to the medical team at DRCC & the Critical Care Team at Lakeridge Health Oshawa for their compassionate care, kindness and dignity provided to Jerry and family.
Jerry was predeceased by his parents Stefan and Katerina, sister Mary and her husband Dave. He will be deeply missed by the love of his life and best friend Pam, son Zach, daughter Darcia, (Noah), grandchildren Graham and Sydney, sister Magda, niece Marika, nephew Vinson and extended family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. Please join the family and friends at a Celebration of his Life on Sunday, September 13 from 2pm to 4pm at Low & Low Funeral Home, 1763 Reach Street, Port Perry and raise a glass wherever you are for Jerry and make sure the “meat is well done!”
As expressions of sympathy, donations to The Terry Fox Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Friends are invited to send condolences, make donations or share memories by visiting www.lowandlow.ca.
