Joe passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on September 21, 2026 at the age of 91 years.
He was the beloved husband of Mildred (McLaughlin) for 65 years, loving father of Sandra, Lynn, and Scott, devoted Poppa to Brady and Allie. Predeceased by his parents, Cyrus and Mary (Bradley) Plunkett and siblings Terence, Cyrus, Margaret, and Mary, along with many good friends. He is survived by his twin sister, Teresa.
Joe retired in 1991 after 34 years at the National Research Council.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a faithful Catholic, finding strength and comfort in his faith throughout his life.
Joe enjoyed playing golf and watching baseball and hockey, especially his Ottawa Senators. Favourite times were spent with his family either at home, the cottage, or during visits at St. Patrick’s Home where he had been a resident since February 2024.
A heartfelt thanks to the staff of St. Patrick’s where Joe was provided dignified care in a loving environment.
The family will receive friends at McEvoy-Shields funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road (at Albion Road) on Thursday, September 24, 2026 from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Maurice`s Church, 4 Perry Street, on Friday, September 25, 2026 at 10:30 am, followed by a reception in the parish hall. Interment will follow at St. Martin`s Cemetery, Martindale, Quebec at 3:00 pm. Those wishing to make a donation in Joe’s honour may consider St. Patrick’s Home or a charity of their choice.
A page turned, a life well lived, a rest well-earned by a proud family man. As Joe would say, “Bye for now.”
