Aged 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Ed’s House in Cobourg with loved ones nearby.
John Eric Pegg was the beloved husband of Pat Pegg (nee Dunn) and the devoted father of Amanda Pegg and her husband, son-in-law Jean-Paul DesLauriers, cherished grandfather to granddaughters Katie Pegg and Sienna DesLauriers, and his younger sister Brenda Baines (nee Pegg). John will also be deeply missed by his extended family and many close friends.
A talented and dedicated industrial developer, John left a lasting mark on his community. Throughout his successful career, he built numerous recognizable properties, including Ponderosa Steakhouses, Frank Vetere’s Pizzerias, and the Port Union Community Centre, among many others. He later transitioned his expertise into building custom homes in Toronto.
John’s building legacy was matched only by the size of his heart. Instead of embracing retirement, he chose to dedicate his time to serving others as a caring and compassionate school bus driver for Stock children with special needs, serving families in both Toronto and Cobourg. At Stock Transportation, he held the role of Union Representative, where he guided members through disputes and advocated for change.
He loved coaching police hockey, especially 42 Division and the Old Timers team, who affectionately nicknamed him ‘The Relic’.
In keeping with his wishes, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In place of flowers, memorial donations may be made to support any of the following organizations:
