The Lindsays have a Scottish background and their crest shows a fierce swan sitting upon a duke’s crown with the creed, ENDURE FORT, meaning, endure bravely.
In Oshawa, John was a football player at Central Collegiate, McLaughlin High School and with the Hawkeyes. Again, with the Queen’s University Golden Gaels 1964-67. He was a shot and discus thrower, an assistant football coach at RMC in 1968, and a longtime coach at Donevan Collegiate. He was also a competitive curler at the downtown Oshawa Curling Club and the Haliburton Curling Club, a tennis and squash player at the Oshawa Tennis Club, a “terrible” golfer, an artist, and a non-fiction reader of psychology, history and economics.
John Lindsay and the family lived first in Oshawa and then just east of Oshawa and enjoyed cottaging first on Kasshabog Lake in the Kawarthas and later in the Haliburton Highlands, building a home on Lake Kashagawigamog. In 2022, John and Heather downsized to a condo in Whitby.
John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Heather. They met at Queen’s University in Social Psychology class. They have one son, Wesley. Over the years the family had one German shepherd, Rowdy, and four golden retrievers, Kasha, Nugget, Colwood and Samson.
John loved dogs, was frugal, valued privacy, was kitchen capable, an atheist and a loyal spouse for 57 years. He will be missed.
