Richard Harris St John

September 28, 1935 – August 21, 2025

Smiling older man in a light-colored shirt

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Harris St. John on August 21, 2025. Loving husband of Agnes (Nan) for 57 years, proud father of Julie St. John (Craig Houle), and devoted grandfather of Olivia and Fraser Houle. Richard will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Florence (Ken) Grondin; sisters Donna (Robin) Dawe, Owen Sound, Ontario; Sister Margaret, Montreal, Quebec; Muriel, Winnipeg, Manitoba; Marjorie (Ian) McLean, Nova Scotia; and several nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and great-nephews. Predeceased by his parents Russell and Mary St. John, sister Ann, and brother Father Leonard.

Richard was born in Souris, Prince Edward Island on September 28, 1935. He is a graduate of St. Dunstan’s University in Charlottetown, PEI, Holy Redeemer College, and University of Windsor. Richard started teaching at Western Ontario Institute of Technology (predecessor of St. Clair College) in Windsor in 1966. He was a member of the inaugural faculty of St. Clair College when it transitioned from WOIT, and he remained there to teach English for more than three decades. Upon his retirement, he taught English at Yong In University in South Korea.

In addition to his cherished family, Richard loved his books, jazz music, and intrepid world travels with his wife. He will be fondly remembered for his kind, gentle nature and will be dearly missed by all, including his many friends and “family” at Kensington Court where he lived his best life for the last two years.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 28 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church (4401 Mount Royal Drive) at 10:15am for family, 10:30am for friends, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery (5005 Howard Ave).

In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer’s Society Windsor & Essex County or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
