john piper oshawa on obituary
It is with great sadness to announce the passing of John Stephen Piper on September 29, 2026, in his 87th year.

John passed away peacefully at Hillsdale with his children by his side.

Loving Dad of James (Shari) Piper and Sharon (Robert) Halick. Cherished Poppa to Jack and Ryan Halick, Alex and Jesse Piper. Trusted companion of Cedar.

Fondly remembered by Brother-in-Law Edmund “Ed” Merringer and nephews Tyler, Ian and Andrew “Drew” Merringer and families.

He was predeceased by his parents Fred “Steve” and Marion Piper and Beloved sister Virginia “Ginny” Merringer.

John was born and raised in Oshawa. After high school he got a job at General Motors Canada where he was a dedicated employee for 41 years in the transportation division.

John always had a love for sports. He enjoyed playing and watching curling, baseball, hockey and golf.

Farquhar Lake was the place he loved the most. John made memories for 50 years up north in Wilberforce. Spent summers with family. Many nieces and nephews enjoyed time at Uncle John’s cottage growing up in the 80’s.

New Year’s Eve parties with the neighbours.

Weekends with work buddies.

His yearly snowmobile weeks with the guys.

Cherished weekends with his closest friends.

John was fortunate to have many special friendships that continued throughout his life. Morning coffee meet-ups with Gord and Bruce were always a highlight. These lifelong friendships were a testament to the kind of person he was.

John always had a smile on his face and loved to have a good time. Work hard, play harder.

Special thanks to the caring and supportive staff at Hillsdale Estates.

Forever in our hearts. Rest easy, Dad!

Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
