After a five-year battle with rheumatoid arthritis John Thomas Steven has “slipped the surly bonds of earth” September 3, 2026, at Soldiers’ Memorial hospital in Orillia.
My lover, my friend, my tennis partner and golf buddy, I miss you desperately. May you rest in peace among those who have gone before you: your wife and sons David and Gary, four of your sisters Helen, Ina, Nan, Wee Helen and brother Archie.
Those of us missing you are son Paul, grandchildren Jessica and Eric and great grandson Theo, sisters Mary and Isa, nieces and nephews and my sons Christopher and Jeffrey and daughters.
We met on tennis courts where he played until he was 82. Our friends remember him fondly as a fierce “competitive” curler. He was a gracious host with a wry sense of humour. He loved his golf and we enjoyed our time at Cedarhurst for 15 years.
John was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. Immigrated to Canada in 1964. Worked as a carpenter, retired as deputy building inspector in Newmarket 2002.
Friends and family are invited to Cedarhurst Golf Club, 825 Thorah Concession Rd 4, Beaverton, to say goodbye and to raise a glass in his memory on Sunday October 18th from 2:00p.m. – 4:00p.m. If so desired, memorial donations in John’s memory may be made by cheque through Mangan Funeral Home to Shades of Hope Wildlife Refuge and would be appreciated.
