JONES, Richard John Jones
April 7, 1934 - July 1, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Richard John Jones, who left us on July 1, 2026 at the age of 92. Such an appropriate day for a man who was so patriotic and who loved Canada!
Born on April 7, 1934 in Blenheim Ontario, Richard lived a life marked by dedication and love for his family and friends. He was known for his pride in being a 30-year Air Force veteran, and for having served in the Korean War. Richard served in several Squadrons, his favourite being 426 Transport Squadron. Richard proudly wore his medals last year at the Remembrance Day ceremony at Hastings Manor Long-Term Care Home in Belleville.
Richard in past years found joy in woodworking. Many of his family members treasure his creations, including tables, clocks, oven squirrels and trays. Richard was always puttering around the house, fixing things and enjoying the outdoors. He was an avid Blue Jays fan and loved hockey. His children especially remember him watching Saturday Night Hockey and invariably yelling “pull the goalie” by the end of the game.
Richard is lovingly remembered by Rose Marie, his beloved wife of almost 69 years. Richard will be dearly missed by two daughters, Gail (Leonard), Mary (Eric) and two sons Donald (Catherine) and William (Janine). Richard also had several grandchildren, Cathleen, Joel, Melissa, Sean, Antaya, Curtis, Nadia and Alicia. Richard also had five great-grandchildren, Darien (his special friend), Logan, Selena, Kayla and Zander. Curtis and Kayla will welcome Richard’s 6th great grandchild in September, a boy.
He was predeceased by his mother Dorothy at a very young age and looked forward to seeing her again in Heaven.
Those who knew Richard will remember him for his legacy of love, generosity, and compassion, which will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Special thanks to the staff of Maple Villa, Hastings Manor, especially during his last days.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 25, 2026 at Mary and Eric’s house in Brighton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society Richard’s memory if you wish.
