Joseph Alfred Nallanathan Ferdinand, fondly known as “Thurai,” passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at the age of 91. Born December 16, 1934, he was the beloved husband of the late Anne Ferdinand, a loving father to Anusha Stephen and Shakila Anthonypillai, a devoted father-in-law to Sandir Stephen and Rohan Anthonypillai, and an adored grandfather to Pramika, Sabrina, Prajith, and Ashvin.
A devoted and dedicated teacher for many years, Joseph touched the lives of countless students, who remembered him with deep respect and affection. His commitment to education and the genuine care he showed his pupils remained a defining part of his life and legacy. Throughout his life he was known for his kindness, dignity, generosity, warmth, and good humour — a man of wisdom and compassion whose love for his family was at the heart of everything he did.
A visitation was held on October 5, 2026, followed by a second visitation and funeral service on Tuesday, October 6, at Holy Redeemer Church, with cremation to follow. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ajax Crematorium & Visitation Centre in Ajax, Ontario. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
