Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on October 19, 2026, at the age of 88.
Beloved husband of 63 years to Kathy. Loving father of Joseph Jr. and Elizabeth (Ross). Cherished grandfather of Avery, Adam, and Aidan. Brother of Elizabeth in Hungary, and uncle to many nieces and nephews in both Hungary and Canada.
Special thanks to all the nurses, PSW’s and doctors at Lakeridge Health Bomanville who cared for Joseph John Mercz in his last weeks.
Visitation and Mass will take place on Friday October 30, 2026, at St. Frances of Assisi Catholic Church, at 214 King Street East in Newcastle, ON. Visitation from 10am – 11am, Memorial Funeral Mass at 11am, refreshments to follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church are greatly appreciated.
