Joy Chadwick McDonald

Joy Chadwick McDonald passed away peacefully at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga, Ontario, on August 31, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Born in Liverpool, England, in 1934, Joy overcame a difficult early childhood with determination. After spending time in an orphanage, she was formally adopted by her stepfather, Roy Carrick Wilson, and grew up with her siblings Carole and Allen. She excelled in academics and sports and received numerous school awards.

At 16, Joy left home and later entered national service with the Royal Air Force. While stationed in Germany, she met Robert McDonald. They married in 1959, lived initially in Scotland, and emigrated to Canada in 1962. After beginning their Canadian life in Scarborough, the couple moved to Mississauga in 1970 and raised their family in Malton.

Joy and Robert shared 67 years of marriage. She was the deeply loved mother of Grant, Brad (Elvia), and Darren (Kelly); proud grandmother of Selena, Emily, Michael, Greg, and Colin; loving sister of Carole Panayi (Demos); and dear aunt of Demetri and Nicholas.

During a varied administrative career, Joy advanced to become a Buyer Analyst with Xerox. She spent 25 respected years with the company before retiring in 1999.

Joy remained active throughout her life. She loved reading, walking, exercising at her local gym, and cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays. She also volunteered with community organizations, including Scouts and the Ladies Auxiliary. Her family remembers her humour, drive, strong work ethic, and unwavering encouragement.

A private memorial service has been arranged. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wellbrook Place, where Joy received compassionate care.
