With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved father, Dimitrios Kabitsis.

Born in the small village of Sarakinado on the island of Zakynthos, Greece, Dimitrios began life in humble surroundings but went on to live an extraordinary journey. A lifelong learner with a passion for exploration, he traveled the world, embraced new cultures, and became fluent in six languages.

In 1959, he made Toronto home, where he married, raised a family, and built a life rooted in love, purpose, and perseverance. Together with our mom, he raised three children and passed on the values that defined him: integrity, compassion, and the courage to always stand up for what’s right.

Dimitrios was a true humanist—he believed deeply in the dignity and potential of every individual, regardless of background. He lived by the principle that we all share a common humanity, and his actions reflected this every day. Whether helping a neighbor, supporting a friend, or advocating for justice, he always led with empathy and respect.

An entrepreneur, founder of many organizations and tireless advocate for others, he left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege to know him.

He leaves behind his three children, their spouses, and seven cherished grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his legacy with pride.

We are heartbroken, but deeply grateful—for his love, his wisdom, and the extraordinary life he lived.

We celebrate a life filled with love, adventure, and a commitment to making the world a better place. He will be deeply missed but remains in our hearts forever.

There will be a private family service, where Dimitrios will be laid to rest in his home town in Zakynthos, Greece.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Heart and Stroke Foundation in his honour.
