KAKEGAMIC, Charles John Gerald Kakegamic

He of Thunder Bay, Ontario, member of Sandy Lake First Nation passed away June 2, 2026 at St. Joseph’s Hospital Hospice and Palliative Care surrounded by his loving family.

Born January 15, 1947 in Sandy Lake, Ontario. Avoiding the residential school system, Charles chose to stay home and help his parents with hunting, trapping, gathering and chopping wood, everyday home chores of living on reserve. His hard working ethic continued throughout his life. Graduating from Confederation College, he was employed as a parole officer, social worker, and an Elder for his home community. Charles also enjoyed wild rice picking with his wife every summer while the children prepared and danced on the rice. When he did find time to to relax he turned on the tv to watch hockey and golf.

Charles John Gerald Kakegamic is survived by his wife of 66 years Margaret Kakegamic, his two daughters Wanda Kakegamic and Jennifer (Boh) Kakegamic, and his two sons Gordon Kakegamic and Bruce Kakegamic. Grandchildren Erika, Sherri, Dakota, Devon, Ashley, Kyle, Kaley, Brandon, Sarah, Noah, Asia and Caden. 13 great grandchildren. Siblings, Richard, Parley, Daniel, Dennis and Lilas.

Preceded by his parents Tom and Damias Kakegamic, sisters Nora Keno, Ruby Beardy, Margaret Mamakeesic and May Mamakeesic.

Wake service, Thursday June 4, 2026, 5 pm to 7 pm, at Blake Funeral Home, Thunder Bay.

Funeral Service with Pastor Wittmeir Friday June 5, 2026, 11 am, Blake Funeral Home, Thunder Bay. Burial to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
