KANNEDY, Larry George Kennedy

Passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday May 5th, 2026 in his 76th year.  Cherished husband for 53 yrs to Elaine Kennedy (Miller). Adored father of Terri-Lynn Hedgcock (Chris), Allison Tiller (Richard) and Laura Kennedy. Much-loved Grandpa of Kennedy, Maggie, Raymond, Lucy, Willa and Andie. Beloved son of Helen Kennedy (Larmour) and the late George Kennedy; deeply-respected brother and friend of Bruce (Marion) and Jeffrey (Iris) and special nephew to Charles Kennedy. He will be dearly missed by sisters-in-law Shirley and Carol and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Larry George Kennedy  was born in Brockville on July 16th 1950. He spent his early years in Brockville before moving with his family to Athens and later beautiful Charleston Lake.  Larry worked with his parents at their well-known family store, “Kennedy’s Groceteria” for many years and continued to be employed there for a short time after his parents retirement.  While attending George Brown College to hone his meat-cutting skills, he met his wife Elaine and they were married on Oct 7th 1972.  As a young couple they lived for many years in Addison, first in a rented farm house, then for 10 years in a beautiful bungalow that he designed and built on 25 acres.  In 1983, Larry became a business owner and opened “Larry Kennedy’s Fresh Meats and Deli” located in the Kensington Plaza in Brockville. After two successful years in business, he decided that he wanted to be able to spend more time with his growing family and was employed for over 20 years in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Larry enjoyed a variety of past-times, including hockey, skiing and in the summer months, roading in his little red car, and boating on the beautiful St. Lawrence River. He could most-often be found down at the Brockville Yacht Club with his dog “Rudi” and later “Buddy,” puttering away on his sailboat, lovingly called “The Lady Elaine.”

Family was first and foremost to Larry. He often remarked that his family were his friends and he had a special connection with each of them. He belonged to the Masonic order with his Dad and brother Jeff and was a proud Past Master of Salem Lodge #368 in Brockville. With brother Bruce as “First Mate,” he traversed the mighty St. Lawrence, Lake Ontario and even travelled as far as New York city on his first sailboat “Tenacious One.” With his wife and family there were many times camping, boating, skiing, or what he liked to call “bonding.”  In his own words “I had a wonderful life.”

The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude for the exceptional care that Larry received at the Brockville General Hospital, the Kingston General Hospital and the Princess Margaret Cancer Center.

Family and friends will be received for visitation at the Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl St., E., Brockville, on Sunday between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. and again on Monday, between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. The Funeral to celebrate Larry’s Life will follow in the Chapel on Monday May 11th, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. Interment at Oakland Cemetery. In memory of Larry, donations to St. John’s United Church Brockville, Shriners Hospitals for Children Canada or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
