KNAPP, Herbert William Knapp
October 6, 1944 - June 9, 2025With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bill Knapp on June 9, 2025. He was the cherished partner of Claire Ducommun, devoted father and step-dad to Angela (Jeremy), Amy (Geoff), and Rachel (Mike), and proud grandfather to Harrison, Scarlett, Erika, and Arwyn. He will be deeply missed by his sister Irene (Mervyn), brother Garry (Bonnie), and half-brother Gordon (Olga). He is predeceased by his half-sister Gail (Wayne).
Born and raised in Bowmanville, Billβs lifelong love of cars began in his fatherβs garage and carried through his 40-year career with General Motors. Known for his easygoing nature and gentle humour, he approached life with a laid-back spirit and a quiet wit.
Family and friends will remember his spontaneous renditions of βHey Good Lookinββ or βItβs Hard to Be HumbleβΒ much to the playful eye rolls of his daughters. His trademark saying, βWhere thereβs a Bill, thereβs a way,β was more than a catchphrase β it was how he lived his life: steady, determined, and always with a smile.
Each February, Bill would joke, βIf I make it through, Iβm good for another year,β in light of the many family losses during that month. This year, he made it β just not all the way through.
He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, quiet strength, and a life well lived.
