KNOX, Evelyn Eileen Knox

At Lakeridge Oshawa, on Wed Sept 10th, Evelyn Eileen (nee Farrow) widow of the late George Knox, passed peacefully surrounded by family. Loving mother of the late Carol Knox, Marilyn (Tom Morawetz), Ron, Kathryn (Guido Casciato). Dear Grandma to Mitchell (Naomi) Morawetz, Jennifer Morawetz (Khan Vu), Clark (Kayleigh Gordon) Morawetz, Matthew Knox, Adam (Daniele) Casciato, & Connor (Julia) Casciato. Treasured Gigi to George, Lillian, Charlotte and Clarabelle Morawetz, Freddy and Walter Morawetz, and Brenna Casicato. Eileen was the last surviving of her siblings the late Audry (late Keith) Rowe, Lorraine (late Dave) Lapham, Grant and Ross Farrow, and her parents the late Howard & Irene (Tebble) Farrow. Survived by sister-in-laws Marlene (Grant) Farrow and Caroline (Ross) Farrow. Last surviving sister-in-law of the late John & Jean Knox, Ross & Shirley Knox, Walter Knox, Evelyn & Chuck Surphlis, Harry & Loraine Knox, and Barbara & Ken Pascoe.

As a child, Eileen started her formal love of learning attending Crooked Creek school while living with her recently widowed Aunt Ruby. She returned home after a few years to finish her elementary years at Starkville. During high school she attended at Newcastle while living with her maternal grandparents, Harry and Roberta Tebble, and went on to complete high school attending in Bowmanville. At the tender age of 17, she began her teaching career in Cowanville followed by Bradley’s giving her the chance to meet and marry the love of her life, George. On her return to teaching after raising their 4 children, she taught at Salem and finally at Hampton Jr. In total she loved and educated children from all these communities for 27 years, and then following George’s early death in 1985, heartbroken, she returned to the activity she loved most, teaching and tutoring for many years.

Eileen was an active lifetime member of Eldad UCW (United Church Women) and WI (Women’s Institute) and thrived in active groups like Solina Silver Set, and Tops, teaching at every opportunity whether preparing a study of another country for UCW, assisting each summer with VBS, writing and directing skits for church, or as a leader with Enniskillen Beavers. She loved being with family, friends and neighbours, and was ready to head out on a driving adventure, bus trip or overseas travel at any suggestion. She had a lifelong love of music and choral singing which brought her great joy.

Dear friend of late Dorothy Snowden, late Shirley Moffat, late Lois Yellowlees, Elaine Wotten, Donna Johnston, Marge Knox, and Eldon (Sandra) Sloan, among many others. Visiting and story telling filled her hours as blessings.

Relatives and friends may call at Northcutt Elliott in Bowmanville, on Monday Sept 22 from 4 pm to 8 pm. A Celebration of Life will take place Sunday Nov 2nd at Eldad United Church, Solina at 2 pm with interment at Zion Cemetery, Mitchell’s Corners and reception at Eldad following the service.

Special thanks to relatives and friends for their care and love over her many years, and especially to Elaine Cathcart who was mom’s caring companion for over 15 years. On mom’s behalf, her family wants to acknowledge with thanks her many PSWs and more recently her other care companions Michelle Sudsbury, Kim Muscat, Bailey Breen, and Rosanne Smith.

Donations can be made in Eileen’s memory to Eldad United Church, Lakeridge Health Bowmanville, or ALS Canada. This obituary was largely penned by mom several years ago and respecting her wishes, we share it with you at this time. She added “Till we meet again” in her notes.
