Krystyna “Krys” Leroux (née Izydorczak)

January 17, 1952 – October 12, 2026

It is with profound sadness and immense love that we announce the passing of Krystyna Leroux, affectionately known as Krys or Kiki, on October 12, 2026, at the age of 74, following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Port Arthur, Ontario, to Helena and Jozef Izydorczak, Krys lived a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, friendship, and adventure.  In 1979, Krys met her soulmate, Danis, and together they built an extraordinary life in Thunder Bay. Their love was something truly special, rooted in friendship, respect, and a shared appreciation for hard work. Together, they built their beloved camp from the ground up, creating a place filled with laughter, hot saunas and memorable days at Dog Lake. They enjoyed spending their winters in Florida and shared a love of fishing, whether it was a trip up the Dog River or their annual fly-in adventure to Stone Lake.

Krys had a true passion for teaching and dedicated her career to the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board, teaching Grades 4 through 7, with much of her career spent at E.Q. Jennings. She was far more than a teacher to her students. She cared deeply, went above and beyond, and brought the same generosity and warmth to her classroom that she shared with everyone in her life. And, as anyone who knew her can attest, once a teacher, always a teacher—especially when it came to correcting someone’s grammar.

Beautiful inside and out, Krys had a way of making everyone feel welcome. She was social, generous, caring, and always ready with her infectious laugh. She loved bringing people together, often hosting what she affectionately called her “no big deal meals.” Whether she was cooking for a crowd, enjoying time at camp, or casting a fishing line, Krys had a gift for making life’s moments memorable.

Above all, Krys cherished her family. She was a devoted wife to Danis, a loving mother to Kate and Jessica, and a proud grandmother (Babcia) to Alice, Elizabeth, Charlotte, and Parker. Her love for her family was immeasurable, and the beautiful life she created with them will remain her greatest legacy.

Krys will be forever loved and deeply missed by her husband, Danis; her daughters Kate Leroux (Jon Murphy) and Jessica Pomagiel (Greg); and her beloved grandchildren Alice and Elizabeth Murphy, and Charlotte and Parker Pomagiel. She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings Dawna Barrow (Les), Gerry Izydorczak (Michele), and Reinhold Gagatek; her nieces Krystyna and Angela Capello, along with her many other cherished nieces and nephews; her many brothers- and sisters-in-law; and her “bestest” friends Pam Guzzi, Steph Gasparini, and Barb McCullough.

She was predeceased by her infant daughter Suzanne; her parents, Helena and Jozef Izydorczak; her brother Roman Izydorczak; her parents-in-law Martha and Henry Leroux; and her dear friend Trish Montemuro.

Krys leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories, countless lives touched by her kindness, and a family who will carry her love, laughter, and spirit with them always.

Services to celebrate Krystyna’s life will be held on Monday, November 2, 2026 at 11 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street with reception to follow. Those unable to attend in person may join the service via livestream through the link on Krys’s page on the Sargent & Son website.
