KUCHERAVY, Mary Kucheravy

She was born July 10, 1930 in Montreal, the oldest of four siblings, and passed away Sunday, September 21, 2025 in Welland, two months after celebrating her 95th birthday with her family.

In her teens, her family moved to Smithville. Mary obtained work in Hamilton, for which she had to commute via train every day. She met her future husband at a wedding they both attended. Mary and Mike were married September 5, 1953 and raised their family in Welland.

Mary is pre-deceased by her husband Mike, sister-in-law Anne, brothers Johnny and Zenny, sister Olga and her husband Ted, and son-in-law Richard. She is lovingly remembered by daughters Cathy (John), Susan (Jerry), Linda (Eddy) and Sandra, along with grandchildren Crystal (Brian), Paul, Cody, Curtis, Rebecca and Sarah and great grandchildren Aidan and Gavin.

Mary was an accomplished knitter as was seen by the many beautiful Icelandic sweaters she was hired to make, and all the blankets, vests and slippers she gifted family. Mary also enjoyed eating out, wine, chocolate and the occasional trip to the casino. She also enjoyed playing bingo (and winning chocolate bars), doing word search puzzles and playing Skip Bo for hours.

The family would like to thank the nursing and PSW staff at The Woodlands of Sunset for their compassionate care of Mary for the past two years. She would often have the staff laughing with her over one of her witty remarks. We’ll all miss her smile and her laugh.

Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society, St. Catharines chapter.
