It is with both brokenness and gratitude that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and friend, Charles Lam (Lloyd) a man whose life was measured not in riches, but in acts of devotion, small kindnesses, and the honor he carried quietly through every season.
Born on January 27th 1951 in Georgetown, Dad was, from the beginning, a man who understood the meaning of responsibility. He wore duty like a familiar jacket, rising early, working late, never leaving a promise undone. If something was broken, he would fix it. If someone was hurting, he would help, often after a grumble or a theatrical sigh, but always, unfailingly, coming through. He never quite learned how to say “no.” His heart simply didn’t know how.
He worried about everything and made a big deal out of most things, but beneath the tough mask was a gentle soul, quick to sacrifice, slow to seek praise. His hands, steady and sure, built more than a home: they built hope, trust, and a future for all who called him family.
To those who knew him, his legendary phrase, “ah pues,” was a catch-all, sometimes an answer, sometimes a challenge, sometimes his unique way of saying “I love you.” Words didn’t always come easily, but love did, expressed in every small act, every gesture of care, every moment of simply being there. He was proud, sometimes stubborn, and yet so proud of his beloved wife, his children, and especially his grandchildren, each of whom carried a special piece of his heart.
Papa’s life was a tapestry of quiet heroism:
A man of his word, a helper in every storm, a man who taught by doing, not by preaching. He was a self-taught jack of all trades, a steady presence on family vacations, and a quiet force at the center of every gathering. No task was too small if it meant comfort for someone he loved.
We grieve his loss with aching hearts, but celebrate a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and the gold and diamond shine of a life well-lived. His was a spirit that refused to break, even when carrying the world for others.
Dad leaves behind Elizabeth Lam, his steadfast companion and partner in every adventure, up’s and downs; his children Anthony, Ryan and Charles Jr., he is beyond proud of them, his adored grandchildren Brandon, Nicole, Nala, Airyanna and
Romeo and all those whose lives were brightened by his kindness, humor, and quiet strength.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to carry forward his greatest legacy:
Help someone in need, say “I love you” when you mean it, and remember that sometimes, a simple “ah pues” can hold a world of love.
Forever in our hearts
A man of honor,
A diamond heart,
Our Papa.
